Abstract Cutaneous cylindroma is a rare benign tumour that occasionally turns into malignant cylindrocarcinoma. In a study recently published in the Journal of Pathology, Rajan et al 11 investigated the role of MYB in CYLD‐defective cylindromas and spyroadenomas.

This designation embraces both the time honored term cylindroma, originally coined by Billroth [2], and indicates the presence of a malignant epithelial neoplasm. Cylindroma will be used in this report for purposes of brevity. Figure 2: The malignant cylindroma component lies deeper in the dermis/subcutis with fibrotic stroma and large confluent necrosis bridging disorganized large expansile solid nests. In contrast, the adjacent benign cylindroma component has a well-organized compact jigsaw puzzle like architecture (H&E, 4× objective). Nevus lipomatosus superficialis is a rare type of connective tissue nevus. Cylindroma is a benign skin appendage tumor with a predilection for the scalp of older females. We describe the case of a 56-year-old woman with a scalp lesion demonstrating histopathologic features consistent with benign cylindroma arising within a nevus lipomatosus superficialis.

Spiradenoma and cylindroma are related sweat gland tumors. To delineate their histogenesis, gene profiles, and their potential drivers, we performed a whole-transcriptome sequencing analysis of fourteen samples of spiradenoma/cylindroma in comparison to normal samples. In rare instances, solitary cylindromas may arise at other body sites. In the current case, a cylindroma of the skin of the breast was diagnosed by complete excision. Cylindroma is a skin lesion that occurs predominantly in the scalp. The most distinctive feature in aspirated material is the presence of homogenous hyaline globules stained purple with Giemsa-stained slides and translucent with the Pap stain.

A benign skin adnexal tumour, seen on the face, trunk and extremities, which has apocrine differentiation. Cylindromas may be solitary (and sporadic or multiple) with an autosomal dominant hereditary pattern. In pathology, a cylindroma is a tumour with nests of cells that resemble a cylinder in cross section. Dermal cylindroma is a common benign adnexal skin tumor. The most common location is scalp (almost 60% of cases) but the tumors may also be seen on the trunk and extremities.
